Faculty of Sports Scıences

The School of Physical Education and Sports started education with the publication of the Official Journal numbered 24289 and dated 16 January 2001 in Afyon Kocatepe University. It has been named as “Faculty of Sport Sciences” with the offer of the University Senate and with the advice of the Higher Education Council with the 1773 decision number of the Official Journal dated 11 November 2019 and numbered 30945. We offer education in three fields: Department of Physical Education and Sports Education (opened in 2009), Coaching Education, and Recreation Departments.

We train our students in the fields of theory and practice during the course of four years. The students who graduate from the Department of Physical Education and Sports Education have the right to become teachers. The students who complete the Department of Coaching Education can work as a coach in different sports. The graduates of the Recreation Department can serve as recreation directors in local governments, industrial organizations, and tourism sector. Moreover, the students studying at the Coaching Education and Recreation Departments can have the right to become a teacher on the condition that they have pedagogical formation courses.

Our faculty has been established on a total of 280 thousand m2 areas. The educational activities are carried out on an area of 44.776 m2 consisting of a 25.332 m2 closed area and a 19.444 m2 open area. In the faculty, there are two indoor sports halls, one artistic gymnastics hall, one fitness hall, two halls with mirrors, one table tennis room, one multi-purpose hall, one hall with tatami mat, one standard size grass football pitch, one standard size artificial grass football pitch, one sand football pitch, one sand volleyball pitch, one indoor synthetic grass football pitch, one indoor tennis court, two outdoor tennis courts, one outdoor basketball pitch, and one athletics track with synthetic floor. Moreover, there is also one semi-olympic swimming pool in the faculty.
